ABC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE: THE DEVIL'S CHILD (TV)

Summary

This made-for-television movie concerns one woman's life and death battle with Satan, which begins with a childhood accident and a mother's pledge, and ends with the birth of her own son. As Nikki De Marco helplessly watches her mother, Rose, wasting away in a hospital bed, she realizes that Rose is struggling to tell her something important. Although Nikki cannot understand the jumbled explanations about a Bible verse, a male visitor, and a life offering to God, her mother's words cause her to flash back on an incident in her childhood: She recalls running from her mother when she caught Nikki flirting with a boy on their building rooftop; and she remembers her fall from the rooftop, which left her body shattered. Then, in the emergency room, Nikki shocked everyone when she miraculously came back to life after her pulse had stopped and the priest had given her his final blessing. Twenty years later, Rose gathers all her energy to sneak out of the hospital and drag herself to church, where she begs for forgiveness at the altar. However, her prayers are in vain and she dies in the church. While Nikki is struggling with the pain of her mother's death, she is also struggling at work where a competitive photographer is undermining one of her projects. However, after the funeral, Nikki's life begins to turn around: her competitor is killed in a freak accident, while she is saved at the last minute by a mysterious man; she inherits a large sum of money which allows her to move into a beautiful apartment in her best friend's building; her neighbor turns out to be the handsome stranger who saved her life; and a romance begins to blossom between herself and her handsome savior, Alex. Although she is thrilled by her new string of luck, Nikki is also confused by her rapidly changing life, and haunted by her mother's last words. A friend from work plants additional seeds of doubt in her head when he informs her about the notorious murders that were committed in her apartment, and about the sketchiness of Alex's past. Nikki brushes off Tim's warnings, until a series of bizarre deaths confirm all the suspicions that had been growing in her mind. Finally, when she becomes pregnant in spite of past internal injuries which had left her infertile, Nikki realizes that there are greater forces at work, and that the powers of good and evil come in many forms. Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements. Includes commercials with Melissa Gilbert for Garnier, and Paul Reiser for AT&T, and a promo for ABC Eyewitness News with Ana Garcia and Jeff Michaels. This program is closed-captioned.
