ANDY WARHOL'S FIFTEEN MINUTES {SHOW #3} {SUZANNE
LANZA} {#WA.00.0455} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of programs, hosted by Andy Warhol, featuring interviews and vignettes with well-known and obscure celebrities, musicians, fashion designers, and artists. Violinist Regina Beukes opens the program by performing "Thais for Meditation" by Jules Massenet and talking about romance in music. Fashion designer Miriam Bendahan discusses her evening wear and the fact that she wears clothes very different from the fashionable dresses she designs. Following a rendition of "Leather Kings" by the rock group "The Fleshtones," Michael Schmidt and Anita Martire present Moto-Fashion biker fashions at the Tunnel club, and the club's director Rudolf, co-owner Thomas Leeser, and bartender Carla Stiemer comment on the history of the bar. Alan Jones poses as an "art cop" and discusses with Brook Larsen the fate of art since the Mudd Club closed and its site was taken over by B. Larsen Frames, Inc. After Robert Longo talks about the importance of music to his creative process, Heather Watts and Jock Soto, dancers with the New York City Ballet, discuss Michael Torke's "Ecstatic Orange" with the composer. Victor Love reads from Richard Wright's "Native Son," and the group Wall to Wall performs "Tuff Luck." Host Suzanne Lanza introduces the story of Mozart's "The Magic Flute," portions of which are performed by The Opera at the Academy, with comments by performers Jeffrey W. Reynolds and Suzan Hanson, director Eric Fraad, and music director Christopher O'Reily. The rock group Saqqara Dogs performs a howling number, and members Ruby Ray, Bond Bergland, Sync 66, and Hearn Gadbois discuss working and traveling together. The program ends as Bobbi Humphrey plays "No Way" on the flute, and The Fleshtones return to accompany Ian McKellen as he recites poetry.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 1999.
