SEINFELD: THE FINALE {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The final episode in this comedy series set in New York City in which comedian Jerry Seinfeld plays himself. Humorous situations in his personal life are interspersed with brief stand-up comedy routines. In this episode, Jerry gets a phone call from the NBC television network and learns that the new president of the network wants to create a series from the pilot, "Jerry," which he and George wrote. Jerry and George accept NBC's offer and make plans to move to California for the show's production. In a surprising gesture, NBC gives Jerry and George access to the private jet for a leisure trip, and they decide to take Elaine and Kramer on a flight to Paris. On the jet, Kramer begins hopping up and down to pound out the water trapped in his ear, but he loses his balance and falls into the cockpit, causing the aircraft to descend. As the jet seems destined to crash, George makes a confession and Elaine starts to do the same, when the jet straightens out. After the pilot makes an emergency landing in Massachusetts, the four New Yorkers witness an overweight man being robbed, but make no effort to help him: in fact, they mock him while Kramer videotapes the incident. They are promptly arrested for breaking a new Good Samaritan law and are forced to stand trial for their self-centered actions -- past and present -- in the prosecutor's zeal to establish a pattern of behavior. The trial becomes a media circus as they employ the services of celebrity lawyer Jackie Chiles, and many character witnesses take the stand, including the Bubble Boy and the Soup Nazi. Clips from several episodes illustrate the witnesses' testimonies. After their deliberation, the jury issues a dire verdict against the four defendants. In the concluding stand-up segments, Seinfeld tries to joke about sodomy as a group of stern prisoners heckle him. Commercials deleted.
