OZ: FAMILY BIZNESS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas set in Oswald Maximum Security Penitentiary, nicknamed "Oz." This episode concerns the stress that prison life imposes on Em City residents and staff, particularly on their relationships with people. As the GED class winds down, the students prepare to share their proud graduation day with loved ones. Poet, the star and valedictorian of the class, is a published writer who has gained so much public support he has been granted parole. On the other hand, Kenny has been banned from graduation due to his recent outburst of troublemaking. He is deeply upset, and asks Poet to help him write to the disappointed loved ones who were so proud of his education. In spite of the GED program's success, Governor Devlin plans to end it the following year, but when McManus tries to rally support for the program, Devlin reminds him that few people care about inmate education. McManus is in an uncomfortable position with Diane Whittlesey: he is beginning to believe the rumors Schillinger is spreading about her murder of Scott Ross. But Diane is trying to rekindle their affair and involve him in her family life. And Leo Glynn faces a personal dilemma, torn between protecting his brother Mark and ending Schibetta's power over him. As the battle between Adebisi and Schibetta escalates, Warden Glynn takes control of his relationship with Schibetta and urges Mark to confess and turn himself into the police in order to end their debt to Schibetta. Meanwhile, Beecher learns the shocking news that his wife has committed suicide and blames him for her death. Devastated by the news, he initially allows himself to be comforted by Keller, who has ulterior motives. And Giles's incoherent rantings about Sister Peter Marie's husband prompt her to revisit her husband's murder, and she is tormented by the fact that Giles is withholding information that might put her at ease. And as O'Reilly slowly recovers from his cancer treatments, his mind is consumed with obsessive love for Dr. Nathan, even though she does not return his feelings. Eventually, his obsession gets the better of him with tragic results.
