ON THE ROAD WITH CHARLES KURALT {NAPA VALLEY; CHARLIE LAUNIE; TRADING DAY; TRAFFIC CONDUCTOR; COWBOYS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of television magazines, in which host Charles Kuralt presents clips from his twenty-five years of travel journalism through the back roads of America. In this program's first segment, Kuralt visits the Christian Brothers winery in the Napa Valley region of California, where one of the members of the order contemplates the romance, challenge, and art of wine-making. Next, Kuralt interviews Charlie Launie, whose diner has been robbed approximately 170 times in the last twenty-five years. Trading Day in Scotsboro, Alabama, is seen next, where people have been gathering since the beginning of the 1900s to trade just about anything with one another. Following this, Kuralt profiles a traffic cop in Pittsburgh who directs traffic as if he were conducting a symphony orchestra, and ends the program in Texas, examining how the myth and legend of the cowboy as hero is sometimes at odds with the reality of his situation. Include commercials.

(On the Road with Charles Kuralt" consists of excerpts from Charles Kuralt's segments on the CBS Evening News, beginning in 1967. In the 1970s the show was aired in four special broadcasts, and in 1983 it was developed into a regular ten-week summer series. In addition, the series was reworked for and aired on the Travel Channel in 1993.)
