X-FILES, THE: EMILY (TV)

Summary

One in this series of science fiction dramas about FBI agents Mulder and Scully and their investigations into "unsolvable" cases involving paranormal phenomena. This episode concerns a little girl named Emily, who is both a product and a victim of the federal government's secret genetic experiments. Scully has recently learned that Emily is her biological child, although she did not give birth to her. She is aware that Emily has endured experimental medical treatments and that both of her adoptive parents have been killed. Scully tries to gain custody of Emily in order to protect her from the organization that is using her for tests. In the custody hearing, Mulder reveals that the government kidnapped Scully, among other women, and stole their ova in order to create toddlers on which to conduct experiments -- and Emily is one of these laboratory-engineered children. Dr. Calderon of Prangen pharmaceutical company has been treating Emily for a rare disease, and Scully becomes alarmed when he refuses to open her medical records, especially when the girl develops a high fever due to a bizarre tumor on her neck releasing toxic secretions. After trying to reason with the doctor, Mulder threatens him, but Dr. Calderon makes clear that the testing takes priority over the individual lives involved. Mulder recognizes the full extent of Dr. Calderon and Prangen's work when he finds a senior citizens home filled with dozens of victims of laboratory testing. But ultimately, Mulder and Scully have trouble finding any witnesses or evidence that would prove wrongdoing. Commercials deleted.
