SPORTS NIGHT: MARY PAT SHELBY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the staff members of a high-pressure, nightly cable program that covers sports news. In this episode, Isaac lands an in-studio interview with controversial football player Christian Patrick, who has a history of violence toward women. Realizing the exclusive interview could push the show into the upper echelon of television ratings, Dana sends Natalie to the stadium for a pre-interview following one of Patrick's games. Meanwhile, Dan desperately wants to grow a goatee but his colleagues feel he would be making a terrible mistake. When Dana informs Dan and Casey that the interview with Patrick cannot include any questions about the assault on his girlfriend, Casey is shocked that Dana would agree to such stipulations. Once Natalie returns from the stadium, Jeremy notices bruises on her wrist, and she shrugs off his inquiries. But Jeremy realizes how she got the bruises after Isaac cites rumors about an assault on an unidentified female reporter. And Dana strikes a deal with Patrick's agent about limitations on the topics the interview can cover, in exchange for hiding the incident with Natalie. Jeremy tries to help Natalie cope, but she refuses help from anyone. Just as the show is nearing airtime, Dana realizes she made a horrible mistake in judgment and tries to correct the situation.
