CALIFORNIA'S GOLD: LIFE IN DEATH VALLEY (TV)

Summary

One in this series of travel programs featuring host Huell Howser, who travels around California, exploring the state's diversity. In this program, Howser goes on a tour of Death Valley. He says, "We discovered Death Valley to be a place full not only of life but of beauty and constant surprises." Park ranger Alan Van Valkenburg is Howser's guide around the park, and they begin their adventure at Badwater, the point of lowest altitude in the Western Hemisphere. Van Valkenburg describes the forms of life at Badwater, reminding Howser that life in Death Valley isn't always easy to see. The ranger takes Howser on a hike along the roadside, pointing out the multitude of flower species, as well as various animals they come across. As they continue to explore, Van Valkenburg describes features of the landscape and the area's flora and fauna. Includes a commercial.
