HUGHLEYS, THE: I DO, I DO, AGAIN {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the Hughleys, a black family that moves to the white suburbs. In this episode, part two of a two-part story arc, Darryl and Yvonne try to renew their vows, despite Darryl's recollection that Yvonne's father, James, never wanted his daughter to marry him in the first place. This episode picks up just as James has collapsed at the wedding rehearsal's dinner table. Though deemed to be OK, James is taken to the hospital as a precaution, thus canceling the dinner and putting the ceremony in jeopardy. Darryl is upset with James for seemingly ruining things yet again, thinking he could be faking. Yvonne is angry at Darryl's behavior, and threatens to not remarry him. Yvonne locks herself in the bathroom while Darryl's father, Henry, gives his son some tips on how to fight with a wife. Meanwhile, Darryl's mother, Hattie Mae, bemoans that her boy didn't marry his childhood sweetheart. Across the street, Dave acts like "Don Juan" to romance Sally. Eventually, Yvonne comes to Darryl and says she will not remarry him unless he learns to be civil with her father. Darryl tells his wife to stand up to her father for once. After James returns from the hospital, Darryl asks him to apologize but he refuses and they continue squabbling. Yvonne intercedes and tells her father he needs to shape up and accept Darryl. Darryl convinces James that they should pretend to like each other, despite the fact that they will always hate one another. Afterward, Darryl and Yvonne separately prepare for the upcoming ceremony. Yvonne's grandmother, M'Dear, speaks to Yvonne about "nature" and her mother, Paulette, talks about the future. Meanwhile, Milsap and bridesmaid Regina continue their romance, much to bossy Aunt Jessie Mae's displeasure. Arriving at the banquet hall, the Hughleys learn that their reservation has been canceled and thus they are forced to wait until a Jewish wedding vacates the room. Finally, at the ceremony, Darryl and Yvonne renew their vows before the dancing begins and Howard Hewett sings. Ultimately, Darryl and James come to terms with each other. Includes commercials.
