WILD WILD WEST, THE: THE NIGHT OF THE RETURNING DEAD (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about the adventures of Jim West and Artemus Gordon, two undercover government agents working in the old American West on secret assignments for President Ulysses S. Grant. In this episode, the partners travel to Mills Creek to investigate the appearance of a mysterious, ghostly figure who rides at night. They cooperate with the town's leaders -- Carl Jackson, Tom Kellogg, Ned Briggs, and Bill Mott -- as they search for the night rider, and they immediately have a dangerous encounter with him in the hills outside of town. Upon learning that Jackson's stable hand, Jeremiah, habitually retreats to the hills at night to play his flute, West suspects that Jeremiah might have some connection to the ghostly rider. West and Gordon use Jeremiah's flute to lure the rider out of the hills, and they nearly capture him. After the skirmish, Jackson finds the rider's hat, which belongs to Colonel Beaumont Carson, a man whose death Jackson personally witnessed thirteen years ago. Realizing that the secret behind Colonel Carson's untimely death could be exposed by West and Gordon's investigation, Jackson and his colleagues decide that West, Gordon, and Jeremiah must be eliminated. But the townspeople are unaware that West and Gordon are working with Jeremiah, and that Jeremiah is gifted with psychic powers, which he plans to use in a plot to find Colonel Carson's murderers. After surviving several attempts on their lives, West, Gordon, and Jeremiah use supernatural elements to weave an elaborate web and capture the men who murdered Carson thirteen years earlier.
