OH, MADELINE: MADELINE ACTS FORWARD AT THE RETREAT (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series, based on the British series "Pig in the Middle," about Madeline, a bored suburban housewife determined to find new ways to bring excitement into her life. In this episode, Madeline jam-packs a suitcase for Charlie's writer conference. He is most excited that he will get to meet influential novelist and his idol Malcolm Wesley. Then, Annie arrives to take Charlie to the retreat, and Madeline is less than thrilled that she is staying behind. Later, Madeline goes to "pump iron" with Doris. Madeline reveals to Doris that she is upset about Charlie not having invited her to the conference. Doris convinces Madeline to drive up to the retreat and surprise Charlie. Arriving at the cold and windy locale, Madeline quickly finds herself locked outside. Then, Charlie, Annie, and the other writers return and prepare for Malcolm's arrival. Charlie is incredibly nervous to meet the prestigious writer. The macho Malcolm enters and asks for some fresh air, causing Charlie to stumble upon the windblown Madeline. While Madeline thaws out, Charlie attempts to talk to Malcolm. When Madeline overhears Malcolm insulting female writers, inferring that woman are only meant for sex, she tries to confront the novelist. Malcolm tells Madeline about what happened to the ex-wife that sassed him: He threw her out a window. Afterward, Charlie tries to defend the sexist Malcolm to Madeline. Later, Madeline gets locked in the steam room with a bathrobed Malcolm. Unable to escape, Madeline and Malcolm begin drinking as he regales her with stories about his numerous ex-wives. Eventually, Madeline has to convince the odd Malcolm that he needs to be less chauvinistic and eccentric. Finally, Charlie locates Madeline and breaks into the steam room, finding a somewhat changed Malcolm, who's now smitten with Madeline. Commercials deleted.
