Summary
The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Mary assists with the help-line phone at the local crisis center, and, after a few false starts, she realizes that she enjoys helping people and that her problems are not so very tremendous after all. Cathy meets with Clete Mizenheimer about a job at the television station, but he seems more interested in dating her. Back at the Shumway home, Martha finds out from Grandpa that she is adopted. Meanwhile, Tom begins drinking at work to compensate for his marital problems. He is disturbed to find that corruption in the union is deeper than he had suspected. Commercials deleted.
