Summary
The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Gore Vidal convinces Mr. Ackerman to release Mary from the mental hospital the following day by saying that he will publicize Ackerman's facility on Merv Griffin's talk show. Annie Wylie takes Tom up on his offer to park her trailer in his driveway. Unfortunately, when Mary calls home to tell Tom about Mary Hartman Homecoming Day and the time capsule celebration, he is less than excited over this unexpected news. Meanwhile, Merle Jeeter has a pleasant visit with Wanda Rittenhouse, who doesn't blame him for his involvement in her husband's death. She believes that the commissioner "choked to death on lies, not steak," and that death saved him the embarrassment of being publicly exposed as a crook. Charlie is in contact with Dr. Fratkis, who assures him that the doctor can do an experimental transplant of what Charlie is missing below the belt. Commercials deleted.
