Summary
The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Mary visits Tom at the plant to discuss Mae's recent television appearance, but he doesn't allow her to stay long since he's afraid of what his fellow workers might think. Merle releases Mae from jail, convinced that anything he does to interfere with her work will only increase her effectiveness and make her a martyr to the cause of women's sexual equality. Meanwhile, Pat's mother visits her in prison and gives her more headaches than help. Charlie lets slip to Mary that Tom has been spending a lot of time at Lou's cafe so Mary stops by the cafe to see whether Tom is seeing someone else. Just as she walks in, Tom and Loretta/Lulu embrace after realizing that nothing happened between them when Tom spent the night in her room after drinking too much. Mary hurries away in a panic after seeing Tom hugging an unknown woman. Commercials deleted.
