Summary

The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Merle and Mary play out a scenario with two puppets, "Little Merle" and "Little Mary." Martha calls George to the hospital in an emergency, but by the time he arrives she has forgotten what it was. To cap off George's day, he has a conversation with a quiet person who turns out to be a corpse. Tom suspects that Mary is up to something, and she reveals that she has obtained a job at a movie theater. Mae stops by the Hartman home to bid Tom and Mary farewell before moving to Chicago. Mary goes to her first day of work, but the job does not last long. Commercials deleted.
