MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN {EPISODE 233} {DR. MEDWICK IS A PEEPING TOM} (TV)
Summary
The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, the members of the Glorious Guardians of Good (GGG), a Ku Klux Klan-style organization, meet. One member named Horace displays charts that reveal that costs are climbing while membership is down. Vernon proposes several ideas for a new GGG image. Members do not welcome his proposals at first, but they begin to warm to them in the end, when everyone reaffirms the group's common prejudices and gathers around a large wooden key that Vernon has set on fire. In a restaurant, Merle reveals to Mary that he has been feeling down lately; something is missing in his life. Howie and Cathy join the pair, even though Cathy and Mary haven't been getting along. Merle keels over suddenly with severe stomach pain and asks Mary for his pills. At Merle's house, viewers see Lila replacing pill capsules with an unknown powder. Back home, Cathy draws a toilet-paper line in the middle of the apartment she is sharing with Howie and insists that they sleep on separate halves and begin a courting relationship. Mrs. DeFarge admits to Grandpa Larkin that she really likes him, but she says she still has a lot of wild oats to sow. In the middle of an embrace with Tom on the kitchen floor, Mary sees a man looking in the window. It turns out to be Dr. Medwick, who confesses that he has been a peeping Tom since he was a little boy and needs help. He then reveals some of the juicy scenes at which he has peeped in Fernwood.
