CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE {LIZA MINNELLI, SID CAESAR} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs starring Carol Burnett. This episode features guests Sid Caesar and Liza Minnelli. Burnett begins the program by answering questions from audience members, and is later joined onstage by Caesar. In the first number, Burnett sings "Cabaret," backed by a troupe of dancers. In a sketch, "V.I.P." television show host F. Lee Korman (Harvey Korman) examines the life of Texas-based presidential daughter, and new mother, Lucy Braines (Burnett). Then, Burnett presents Minnelli, who sings "The Debutante's Ball." Burnett talks about watching her idol Caesar rehearse when she was just out of U.C.L.A. This leads into a sketch where Caesar portrays a husband expecting the birth of his first child. Next is a commercial parody for mouth wash. Then, in "Star Trip: Who's Afraid of Virginia Robot?," a take-off on "Star Trek," a futuristic flight crew loses communication with their mission control center back on Earth and meets a sexy robot from another spaceship. Next, Burnett and Minnelli perform a duet with songs that involve time, including "Racing With the Clock," "Just in Time," "Bidin' My Time," "If You Got the Money, I Got the Time," and "Time After Time." In the next sketch, "Carol & Sis," Burnett must fight through a sleeping-pill fog during an important college interview for her younger sister (Vicki Lawrence). Next, Caesar sings "Girls, Girls, Girls" in a take-off of the Ziegfeld Follies, which becomes rife with performance errors once showgirl Burnett joins the number. Burnett ends the show with her trademark song, "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together." Includes commercials.
