MAKING THE BAND: PILOT (TV)
Summary
The pilot in this reality series in which "boy band" impresario Lou Pearlman tries to form the next great boy band -- O-Town. In this episode, Lou Pearlman, President of Trans Continental Records, launches his nationwide search for five singers to form his new boy band, drawing from a pool of 1,700 hopefuls which will first be whittled down to twenty-five semi-finalists. Some of the hopefuls at the New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Nashville, and Honolulu auditions (among other cities) are briefly introduced before the twenty-five are selected. The semi-finalists travel to Orlando, Florida ("O-Town" as Pearlman affectionately calls it) in an attempt to make it through the next cut to the final eight. Day one of the tryouts are vocal and dance training, led by Kim Dawson, Trans Con production chief, Mark Goff, vocal trainer, and choreographers Tymisha Harris and Kim Samborski. Goff discusses how crucial it is that the guys be able to sing five-part harmony a cappella. Day two entails the semi-final auditions, which are held in front of a large panel of judges -- causing some semi-finalists to choke and others to thrive on the intense pressure. That night, the eight finalists are announced: Paul Martin, Jacob Underwood, Bryan Chan, Ashley Parker Angel, Ikaika Kahoano, Mike Miller, Erik-Michael Estrada, and Trevor Penick. The eight finalists are given the weekend to say goodbye to their friends and family before heading back to Orlando to move into a house with the other finalists. Within weeks, the five members of O-Town will be selected. And according to Pearlman's no-nonsense talk to the eight after they show up two hours late for practice, they've got a long way to go. Includes commercials. This program is closed-captioned.
