Summary
This live broadcast from The Museum of Television &
Radio in New York features WOR-AM's "The Joan Rivers
Show" in a special broadcast for the Museum's 2000
Radio Festival. Rivers opens the show and announces
that she is broadcasting from The Museum of Television
& Radio. She goes on to talk about the Museum, its
history, and what it offers to the public. The show
proceeds as a series of interviews, the first of which
is with Bob Batscha, president of the Museum. Batscha
and Rivers discuss the following topics, among others:
the Museum's collection and what the Museum does; the
Museum's criteria for selecting programming; how
listeners can become members of the Museum; old
kinescopes and lost programs; and the process by which
Batscha came to be president of the Museum. Next,
Rivers interviews Ken Mueller, the curator of the
Museum's radio department. The subjects he and Rivers
explore include the popularity of radio, the future of
radio, the radio festival, commercials, and Mueller's
background. Next, Rivers interviews author Susan
Horowitz. They discuss, among other things, Horowitz's
book, "Queens of Comedy"; the subjects of the book,
including Carol Burnett, Phyllis Diller, and Joan Rivers
herself; the challenges women comedians face; the
tendency toward self-destruction the two perceive in
women who make it big; and up-and-coming women
comedians. Includes commercials and public service
announcements.
