WARS AND IMAGES: GREASER {PART 2 OF 4} {ENGLISH LANGUAGE VERSION} (TV)

Summary

Continued from T:61863. Part two in this four-part documentary series on the history of the relationship between Mexico and the United States as portrayed through published images. This episode looks at the Mexican revolution of 1910 to 1920 through images from postcards and newsreels. It begins with footage of the "Porfirian Peace" and then shows the nationwide uprising against Porfirio Diaz as depicted on postcards. Using text from personal accounts and numerous film images, the program goes on to examine Rhys Price's Magonista insurrection in Tijuana in 1911; the election of Francisco Madero as president of Mexico; the emergence of Victoriano Huerta as the new "strong man" of Mexico; Madero's murder; Huerta's self-appointment as dictator of Mexico; Mutual Film Corporation's contract with Pancho Villa to film the battle of Ojinaga; writer John Reed's impressions of revolution; the seizure of a group of drunken U.S. Marines by Huerta's officials; Jack London's account of the 1914 invasion of Veracruz by American troops; the skirmishes on the border between Mexican rebels and Anglo-Texans; Pancho Villa's attack on Columbus, New Mexico, in 1916; and President Woodrow Wilson's decision to send General John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing to hunt Villa down. Continues with T:61845.
