HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: THE SNOW GOOSE (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramatic specials presented by Hallmark. Adapted by Paul Gallico from his novel set in England during World War II, this drama focuses on Philip Rhayader, an outcast, hunchbacked English artist who is befriended by Frith, an orphaned village girl, as they attempt to rescue a lost Canadian snow goose from hunters. Rhayader, who lives in solitude in a lighthouse, tells Frith that he is not lonely because he loves to paint and enjoys sailing. He is enlivened, however, when he nurtures the goose back to health with his new friend. Frith becomes comfortable with the outcast's friendship, but when the bird is healthy enough to migrate, the goose and the girl disappear, venturing out into the world alone. Rhayader grows despondent after the losses, comforting himself again with painting and sailing as World War II begins. He is stunned when, three years later, the goose returns, as does Frith. Although he is elated that his "family" is reunited, Rhayader decides that he must use his boat for a risky war mission to save British soldiers who are stranded at sea. Includes commercials.
