MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The pilot of this irreverent comedy series revolving around a precocious middle child who narrates life in his tumultuous and outrageous family. In this episode, Malcolm's teacher Caroline Miller discovers that he is a genius and moves Malcolm to the gifted classes at his school. Malcolm faces up to a bully who teases him for being smart and in the process wins back the friendship of his new friend Stevie Kenarban. This episode introduces the following characters: Lois, Malcolm's mother, who answers the door without wearing a shirt and rules the family with an iron hand; Malcolm's befuddled father Hal, who complains about an always empty iced-tea pitcher when asked to support Lois's unpopular decision to send Malcolm to the gifted class; Malcolm's brothers Reese and Dewy, who erupt into a brawl over the issue of answering the door; and the absent Francis, sent off to a military academy in order to curb his troublemaking. Commercials deleted.
