LONE GUNMEN, THE: BOND, JIMMY BOND (TV)

Summary

One in this series about a team of conspiracy theorists who investigate elaborate crimes while struggling to reconcile the fact that even though they excel at forensics, computer hacking, and criminalistics, they fail miserably at social skills, fashion sense, and hygiene. In this episode, which opens with a teaser that parodies the film "The Matrix," the Gunmen are shocked to learn that the number-two hacker in the computer underworld (known as "Double Bogey" for his fondness for golf) has been murdered. When they go to his house to investigate the murder, they find a $1,000,000 check made out by a mysterious "non-profit" organization. Strangely, all of the clues lead the Gunmen to the air-headed coach of a football team made up of blind men. The coach of the team, who is known as "Bond, Jimmy Bond," explains that it has always been his dream to coach blind athletes, and that at some point an anonymous benefactor stepped forward to pay for a team to be set up. The Gunmen are forced to break Bond's heart by telling him that the "non-profit" company that funded his dream is actually a group of Russian criminals who are using his team as a front for a money-laundering operation. Furious, Bond rushes to the criminals' estate, where he is quickly apprehended and held hostage. At the same time, Langley is grabbed at the fake office of the "non-profit," where he has gone in an attempt to gather evidence. He is held hostage alongside Bond, and eventually the Russian mobsters realize that they can use Langley to help them hack into and rob a bank. The other two Gunmen, Frohike and Byers, then enlist mysterious special agent Yves Adele Harlow (whose name, the Gunmen figure out, is an anagram for "Lee Harvey Oswald") to help them free their allies.
