MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO MEMBERSHIP EVENT, THE:
THE MISTS OF AVALON {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

Continued from T:64631. Part two of two. This two-part drama offers a unique and fantastical take on Camelot and the Arthurian legend. Morgause, Igraine, and Viviane are three sisters and priestesses whose devotion to the "old religion" of the Goddess is constantly under fire from the growing Christian movement. Viviane leads the mystical and secluded community called Avalon, which exists in a parallel universe to Celtic England. At the beginning of this half, Morgause has agreed to watch after Mordred while Morgaine goes to Camelot to meet with Arthur, who has become king. Meanwhile, Lancelot pines away for Gwenhwyfar, the young Christian whom his cousin Arthur has taken as a bride. Eventually, Lancelot begins an affair with Gwenhwyfar, who is deeply ashamed of her inability to conceive a child for Arthur. Morgaine is taken with a soldier in the anti-Saxon army whose father is a powerful duke. After the two court briefly, Morgaine finds herself accidentally engaged to marry the soldier's father. She realizes she must go through with the marriage; if she backs out, her brother's nobility will be thrown into doubt, and the cause will be compromised. Morgaine moves to the duke's estate, and Morgause is left to raise Mordred. Very soon, it becomes clear that Morgause is raising a force of evil in Mordred, who is taught that his goal in life is to kill anyone who gets in the way of his assuming the throne. When Arthur discovers the truth about his inbred son, he fears that it may be too late to protect his kingdom. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
