Summary
In this four-part postmodern comedy daydreams allow the imagination to discover dance within the banal movements of day-to-day life. In the first part, a man and a woman are walking down a country road. They walk faster and faster until eventually they are running full speed. The sequence continues as the same couple is seen working out in a gym, bicycling in the country, boating on a river, and rock climbing on a cliff over the ocean. The segment concludes as each setting is revisited, and the man finds himself alone in his daydream. In part two, groups of dancers dance in unison atop platform cranes that are clustered across an endless rural landscape. The segment ends as the daydreamers -- the people dancing on the cranes -- return to reality and find themselves in an elevator in a parking garage. In the third part, titled "Unleashed," a man arrives at his cubicle at work, looks out the window, and sees a group of dogs playing outside. When he returns his gaze to the office, his coworkers start throwing papers in the air and dancing rambunctiously around the office. The fantasy ends abruptly when someone speaks to the daydreamer. In the final part, "Deere John," a man walking down a city block imagines himself running in an open field -- and dancing romantically with a backhoe. The backhoe eventually comes to rest on the ground, and the man finds himself back on the street.
