LIFE OF RILEY, THE: FATHER-IN-LAW VS. FATHER-IN-LAW (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies about Chester A. Riley, a lovable loser, and his family. In this episode, Riley and his best friend Jim Gillis engage in a tug of war over a prospective bride for their sons. Junior Riley has been dating sixteen-year-old Ginny Parker for some time, and Gillis warns Riley that the young people may be turning serious. Riley scoffs at the idea -- but when Ginny's father stops by to meet Riley, whom he clearly views as a prospective in-law, Junior's father begins to worry. He is egged on by Gillis, who suggests that Mr. Parker is looking for a new home for his daughter. Riley initiates a heart-to-heart talk with Junior, suggesting that at seventeen the boy is too young to become romantically serious. Junior breaks off the relationship but tells his father that Mr. Parker is on his way to the Riley home to take issue with Riley's interference in Ginny's romance. Gillis suggests that Riley head Mr. Parker off by going to the Parker home instead. When Riley and Gillis arrive there, however, they see a mansion -- and Riley decides that Junior should marry Ginny after all. Similarly inspired by the wealthy appearance of the Parker home, Gillis introduces Ginny to his son Egbert. Although neither boy seems particularly interested in matrimony or even even in Ginny at this point, the would-be fathers-in-law dress their sons up and go courting. In the end, however, both Ginny and her father offer surprises. Commercials deleted.
