MY LITTLE PLANET (EPISODES 14 - 26) {FRENCH WITH
ENGLISH SUBTITLES} (TV)
Summary
This tape offers thirteen episodes of the French series "My Little Planet," which run an average of five and a half minutes each and are individually subtitled in English. The series takes an animated look at environmental issues and animal rights through the eyes of a pair of children named Hannah and Ollie. In the first episode, "20 Millimeters Under the Earth," the children are shrunk by their friend Susie Spider so that they can learn about decomposition and biodegradable products. In "Stop! Thief!" the children learn about animals that hibernate. In "The Race for Power," the children learn that energy can be harnessed from nature as well as from batteries and fossil fuels. The fourth episode, "Lights On, Lights Off," reminds children to shut their lights off before they go to bed at night. "Itchy" is a cautionary tale in which factory pollution makes everyone in Hannah and Ollie's village sick. Episode six, "Co-Koa," expands into more fantastical material: the children must stop a mad scientist who is hell bent on finding a chocolate-milk formula through experimentation on cows. Episode seven, "The Magic Root," teaches children that medicine can come from natural sources. In episode eight, "Back in Time," the children travel to the beginnings of humankind and receive a lesson in the history of agriculture. In "The Old Barn," episode nine, the children fight to save a condemned barn from being torn down. In "Two Other Children," Hannah and Ollie meet two African children who come from a village where food is scarce. "Air and Everywhere" deals with the connection between human breathing and plant life. In episode twelve, "The Great Ocean," the children learn that fish are dying everywhere because of human pollution. The final episode, "The Dragonfly Princess," compares metamorphosis to a fairy tale.
