SESAME STREET: HURRICANE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of educational children's programs that teaches numbers and the alphabet, along with social and cultural concepts, to pre-schoolers. Set on the fanciful urban block of Sesame Street, the series features Jim Henson's live-action Muppets, animation, short films, and a cast of adults and children. In this program, everyone on Sesame Street makes last-minute preparations as a hurricane draws near. Kermit the Frog and Al Roker offer periodic weather updates on television throughout. Other highlights in this episode include the following: a segment of "Ernie's Show and Tell" in which a child shows off his drawing of the United States; an alphabet countdown; an edition of the animated "Mary Shaboom" in which she moves to a new house that she doesn't like; Oscar the Grouch's refusal to come inside for the hurricane; a song about the dangers present in everyday life; Grover trying to show what it looks like to be surprised; animated pirates singing a song about planning for a trip; Cookie Monster singing a song about eating cookies set to the music of "Making Whoopee"; two lamps illustrating the difference between "up" and "down"; Gordon and Big Bird making shadow puppets on the wall with a flashlight and their hands; Noodles and Nedd scaring each other with shadows; and Bert allaying Ernie's fear of monsters by singing a song to him. The episode ends with a segment of Elmo's World -- a world drawn by crayons. Elmo talks about the many different types of birds, while kids go bird-watching; a segment on ducks and how they lay eggs is shown.
