SIX FEET UNDER: THE TRIP (TV)

Summary

One in this series about the Fisher clan, a loving -- if dysfunctional -- family struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of the stressful day-to-day operations of the eccentric family business, a funeral home in Los Angeles. In this episode, an infant dies of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Federico, whose wife is pregnant, has a hard time quelling his anxieties as he prepares for the funeral. After Ruth sees a man leaving David's apartment, she confronts her son about his sexuality, but David says he'll have to talk with her later. David and Nate leave for the Annual Western States Funeral Directors' Conference in Las Vegas, and Brenda tags along for the ride. At the conference, Nate confronts Matt Gilardi about the fire in the house across from Fisher & Sons. Brenda's brother Billy shows up in a casino, and he and Brenda have a huge argument. David gives a keynote speech about the importance of independent funeral homes, and all but the Kroehner representatives respond positively. A group takes David out in celebration, but he ends up leaving early to meet a call guy; they have sex in a parking lot, but the police show up and David gets arrested. Claire finds out her friend Gabe is in the hospital after overdosing. She visits him there and eventually gets the courage to ask him if he did it on purpose. She sleeps over at the hospital, and later opens up to Gabe about her feelings for him. At the flower shop, Nikolai tells Ruth that customers have been complaining that her arrangements look like funeral arrangements. After Nikolai designates Robbie to do all the arranging, Ruth enrolls in a flower arranging class. The teacher gives her some useful advice on how to breathe and relax -- and Ruth's flower arranging skills improve tremendously. Finally, Federico's wife Vanessa has her baby; they name him Augusto.
