SIX FEET UNDER: A PRIVATE LIFE (TV)
Summary
One in this series about the Fisher clan, a loving -- if dysfunctional -- family struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of the stressful day-to-day operations of the eccentric family business, a funeral home in Los Angeles. In this episode, Marcus Foster, Jr. and his boyfriend are attacked near an ATM because they are gay, and Foster is beaten to death. David prepares the body for the viewing and is haunted by Marc's ghost, which animates David's struggle with his own homosexuality. Brenda confronts her brother Billy about his recent behavior; she says she can't trust him and demands he give her apartment key back. She also breaks up with Nate, after they quarrel over how to deal with Billy's potentially dangerous behavior. Ruth struggles with David to get him to admit he's gay, with no success. She opens up to her co-worker Robbie about what she calls "the most horrible moment from my intimate past." In exchange, he tells her his coming-out story. Billy tricks Nate into coming to his apartment. There, he pretends he killed himself and then threatens Nate with a knife. Later, a crazed Billy breaks into Brenda's apartment. He reveals that he's mutilated his lower back, threatening to do the same to her. She escapes from his attack and makes the painful choice to have him committed. Claire accompanies Gabe on his first day back to school. She has a meeting with her guidance counselor and they discuss her academic future. He asks her about Gabe, and she reveals some of her innermost fears. David comes out to Federico, who responds with fear and prejudice. Keith works security at the Marc Foster funeral, where Christian demonstrators create a scene, and David attacks one of them in frustration. David talks with Keith about his troubles accepting his sexuality. Finally, David comes out to his mother, and it spawns a conversation about the family dynamic.
