MUPPET SHOW, THE {JEAN STAPLETON} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs featuring Jim Henson's Muppets, and hosted by the group's genial emerald ringleader, Kermit the Frog. In this program, the cast leads off with a Mexican number, after which Gonzo realizes that his Mexican Jumping Beans are missing. Special guest Jean Stapleton sings a duet with Fozzie Bear, "Simple Melody." Gladys from the kitchen then mistakenly delivers a walnut-lima bean sandwich to Kermit. Miss Oink Oink sings a song about a "bow wow." Rowlf, her accompanist, is humiliated by the term "bow wow" but decides to keep playing anyway. Jean Stapleton confides in Sam the Eagle that the Swedish Chef speaks "mock Swedish." She proceeds to speak with the Chef in mock Swedish, until he switches to mock Japanese. Miss Piggy confronts Kermit, demanding to know why she has no role in the melodrama. When Annie Sue gets stage fright, Miss Piggy jumps at the part -- only to discover that it's not quite what she expected. Beaker accidentally shrinks himself in Muppet Labs. Finally, Stapleton performs an explosive musical duet with Crazy Harry. Commercials deleted.
