Summary
One in this dramatic series chronicling the love affairs
of two American girls living in Beijing who become
involved with the inhabitants of a traditional Chinese
courtyard. In this episode, Mr. Li and Jack discuss the
possibility of a job for Tianming, while Tianliang
debates what to do about his current job. Mr. Li
invites Louise's father Jack to eat real Chinese food
and to ask him about a job for Tianming. At the
restaurant, Jack is turned off by the food, but says
that he will offer Tianming a job. When Tianming goes
to talk to Jack about the job, he realizes that Jack's
discussion of qualifications is about Tianliang and not
himself. After the meeting, Tianming tells Tianliang
what Jack is attempting to do. Tianliang tells Louise,
who yells at her father for tricking not only her
husband, but her brother-in-law. That night the Li
family attempts to talk Tianliang into the job at Jack's
company, but Tianliang really wants to stay obedient to
his Chinese company rather than leave for an
international company. Tianming becomes angered at his
brother's ignorance. That night, Louise's mother sneaks
to the courtyard to tell them that Jack will be leaving
tomorrow for the United States and that the offer might
have fallen through. When Tianliang goes to a meeting
for the Japanese car company the next day, they attempt
to give him money to entice him, however Tianliang is
offended and tells Zhizi that he won't take the money.
Later that day, an agreement between China and Japan is
signed, with the help of Tianliang, to allow for the
import of Japanese cars to China. Later on, Louise and
Tianliang go to the Great Wall for sightseeing and to
discuss Jack's offer, which Tianliang decides not to
accept. The next day, Louise's family and the Lis are
having a meal when Jack announces that he is returning
to the United States. Just then, Tianliang enters and
gives Jack some important documents that may help his
car company. Jack is quite grateful, but leaves because
he has to catch a flight. As the episode ends, Miss
Ji's former classmate Dongzi and his daughter visit her
again. He tells her that, because he has been busy, he
has been unable to see her, but he wants her to come by
their house so they may all spend time together, hinting
that he might be attracted to her.
