XI BU JING CHA {POLICEMEN IN THE WEST} {EPISODE 2} {MANDARIN CHINESE} (TV)
Summary
The second of two programs on this tape. Episode two in this dramatic series about a team of investigative police officers in the Public Safety Bureau of Gansu Province, Shazhou City, on the northwest border of China. This episode begins with Bureau Chief Deng Hong and team leader Yang Liqiu riding in a car to visit the Mute, who is now in an orphanage after killing his father to avenge his mother's murder. Deng Hong apologizes to Liqiu for scolding him and his team about the Ma Li case. Meanwhile at the station, officers Chen Sipei and Ma Xiaoliang have just come back from the local hospital where Xiaoliang donated blood to a robbery victim, but quickly go out again to investigate another robbery incident. A few minutes later, the assistant team leader Liu Han receives a call that his wife just gave birth to a healthy boy, and he shares the great news with female desk officer Tong Yan. Shortly afterwards, Liqiu's wife Yang Qingqing comes to look for him, but he is not back yet, and the female party affairs liaison Tian Ruyu tries again, unsuccessfully, to talk her out of getting a divorce. Meanwhile, Liqiu visits his son at elementary school, and then goes back to the station for lunch. While most of the team jokes around during lunchtime, Sipei and Xiaoliang come in with the news that they were treated to lunch by the robbery victims they had been interviewing. Upon hearing of this act of "bribery," Liqiu makes them go back to pay the robbery victims the cost of the lunch. After praising the job police dog trainer Zhou Gouqing and his two dogs did in the case of Ma Li, Liqiu urges Liu Han to take a few days off to be with his wife and newborn son, but Liu Han again turns down the offer. At the end of the day, Liqiu finally goes to see his wife to discuss their divorce and custody of their young son. Since they both want custody, they agree to leave the decision to a judge. Afterwards, Liqiu returns to the station for the night (since he hasn't been living at home since the divorce proceedings started) and sees the oldest officer, Quan Youfu (nicknamed Old Quan), going home. Old Quan arrives home and his wife tells him that their next-door neighbor, the drug addict Liu Shaoming, is forcing his wife and mother to give him money to buy drugs again. Old Quan goes over to help, but Shaoming throws a rock at his forehead and runs away.
