CHINESE} (TV)

Summary

The first of two programs on this tape. Part eleven of twenty-five in this television adaptation of the classic Chinese supernatural-fantasy novel, "Journey to The West," written by Wu Chengen in the mid-1500s. This adaptation follows the journey of the Tang monk Sanzang and his three pupils, detailing their adventures with monsters and gods as they travel to the Western Heaven seeking the three higher Buddhist scriptures. In this installment, Sanzang falls into a trap set by the Yellow-gown Monster and Sun Wukong returns to rescue him. In part eleven Sanzang's second pupil, Zhu Bajie goes to find him food (since Sanzang's first pupil Wukong was dismissed). Bajie is away for quite a while, so Sanzang's third pupil, Sha Seng, goes to look for him, leaving Sanzang alone. Sha Seng soon finds Bajie sleeping, and they come back to find that Sanzang has gone off by himself. Sanzang was lured away by a pagoda that alternately appears and disappears and ended up in the Yellow-gown Monster's cave. Bajie and Sha Seng go to fight the Yellow-gown Monster, but with no success. Meanwhile, Sanzang learns that the wife of the Yellow-gown Monster is really a human princess named Baihuaxiu who was kidnapped by the monster a year ago. Sanzang is freed by Princess Baihuaxiu, and then joins his two pupils to see the princess' father. Upon learning that it was the Yellow-gown monster that kidnapped his daughter, the King asks Sanzang and his pupils to rescue her. Before Sanzang and his pupils can agree, the Yellow-gown Monster, disguised as a handsome young man, comes to see the King and transforms Sanzang into a tiger. Since Bajie and Sha Seng can't defeat the Yellow-gown Monster, Bajie goes to find Wukong for help. Upon arriving in Wukong's cave, Bajie says that Sanzang has been thinking a lot about Wukong, and that Sanzang wants Wukong to return. Wukong doesn't believe him, so Bajie has no choice but to tell Wukong the truth that Sanzang is really in trouble. Wukong still doesn't want to go back, so Bajie chides Wukong that he is afraid of the Yellow-gown Monster and that this is why he won't go back. Upon hearing this, Wukong immediately goes back to fight the Yellow-gown Monster. After a long and exciting fight, Wukong defeats the Yellow-gown Monster, frees Princess Baihuaxiu, and transforms Sanzang back into his human form. Afterwards, Wukong wants to leave again, but Sanzang admits he was wrong for sending Wukong away and asks Wukong to stay. Wukong agrees, and the four travelers continue with their journey to the West.
