Continued from T:71662. One of several segments of live and continuous coverage of the countdown leading up to the year 2000, as aired on TV Azteca in Mexico. This segment begins at 13:47:00 in the countdown and runs until 11:43:40, about two hours. Host Javier Alatorre and his guest Pablo Latap’ continue the coverage of the Chinese celebration in Beijing, where President Jiang Zemin welcomes the year by igniting a large ceremonial fire. Images from Hong Kong show the countdown to the year 2000 in another large gathering. Back in the studio, host Javier Alatorre and Latap’ connect with reporter Gloria Witt in Cancun, where she interviews people in the city market about their plans for the evening. Armando Contreras reports from Xochimilco at the home of the Bonilla family, who will spend the day with the reporters, showing their preparations for the evening. They are interrupted to show live images from the countdown in Taiwan, and images of that country's first child born in the year 2000. Back in Xochimilco, Marco Campillo reports from a helicopter, showing the roof of the Bonilla house, where they are preparing part of their New Year's celebration. Next, Edgar Molina reports from Guadalajara, presenting the typical meal that locals eat in this season. Back in the studio, Lorena PŽrez J‡come and Marcos ValdŽs introduce a musical performance by Twist, singing "Hello, Hello". Next, Alatorre and Latap’ welcome a new guest, Julio Michaud, a wine expert from Domecq, who discusses the types of wines to serve with the evening's dinner and the proper way of serving them. Vicente Galvez reports from La Viga market in Mexico City on the most typical meals prepared on New Year's Eve. Juan Luis Rodr’guez then reports live from the Tamarindos beach in Acapulco and the preparations for the big celebration there. Reporter Ivonne Romero then introduces Claudia Vidal, director of executive protocol, and Itziel Amador, a decorator, in a setting with a dinner table; they explain the proper way to set the dinner table and how to handle the utensils. After this, Latap’ leaves the studio and two new guests are introduced: actor Sergio Basanez and Acacia Engfui, president of the Institute for Cultural Relations for the Chinese community in Mexico City. They talk about symbols of good fortune for the coming year and about the importance of feng shui. In Israel, reporter Ana Mar’a Lomel’ interviews a couple preparing to be married on the last day of the year. In Paris, reporter Lilly TŽllez shows images of the city and the prominent boutiques. After a short pause, the program continues with two pre-recorded New Year's messages from Vicente Fox, the presidential candidate for PAN PVEM, and Porfirio Mu–oz Ledo, the presidential candidate for PARM. Back in the studio, Alatorre continues talking with actor Sergio Basanez and introduces further reports from across the country: M—nica Rodr’guez is at the Basilica of Guadalupe, where many people have gone to ask the Virgin of Guadalupe for something for the coming year; Jorge Zarza is at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City; Luis Padua is in Monterrey and shows the preparations taking place in the Macroplaza, where two large projection screens have been set up on which images will represent the past and the future. A special report by Gamalie L—pez shows the home of the Orozco family, who for many years have decorated their house with a huge number of lights and decorations and the family invites people to go inside and see them. Reporter Edgar Morales, at the Four Seasons restaurant, interviews the person responsible for food and drink, Fernan Gutierrez, who presents the New Year's Eve dinner menu. TV Azteca celebrity Claudia Vega joins Alatorre and Basanez. After a short pause, pre-recorded images show Christmas greetings from actress Annette Michel, singer Alberto V‡zquez, actress and singer Lupita D'Alessio, and actor JosŽ Mar’a Yazpik. On the music stage, PŽrez J‡come and Valdes present another performance: Lisset sings "Sola." Continues with T:71796.
