ABC SPECIAL PRESENTATION: REPORT FROM GROUND ZERO {TERRORIST ATTACKS} (TV)
Summary
A special presentation featuring personal commentary about the events and aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. This program is a series of individual interviews with New York City firefighters, policemen, victims' family members, and others. Interspersed throughout the program are images of Manhattan -- before, during, and after September 11. The firefighters and policemen describe the type of work they do and share their earliest memories of wanting to do their particular job. Throughout the program, friends and family share memories of the following emergency workers who were killed on September 11: Joe Vigiano, Ron Bucca, John Perry, John Drumm, Tim Higgins, and Jonathan Ielpi. Former chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank, David Rockefeller, explains why the Twin Towers were built and others recall the towers' construction. Next, firefighters explain where they were when they first heard about the attack, and they share their thoughts from that morning.
They also discuss the work they engaged in after arriving at the World Trade Center on September 11, their eventual call for evacuation, and the towers' collapses. One group of firefighters was inside the North Tower when it collapsed, and they share their story. A husband and wife describe their search for each other after the attack -- one story that ended happily.
