CSI: MIAMI: THE GOLDEN PARACHUTE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas which follows the macabre exploits of a team of forensic criminalists in Miami. In this episode, a private jet on its way to Washington D.C. crashes in the Florida Everglades. As the CSIs arrive on the scene, they receive information from federal authorities that there were a total of eight passengers (two pilots and six passengers) on the aircraft. Horatio Caine begins processing the scene and spots a survivor. Eric Delko jumps into the water, but he is unsuccessful in his attempt to resuscitate the pilot. Lacking evidence, Megan Donner and Caine rule out the possibility that a bomb on board the plane may have caused the crash. Coroner Alexx Woods has more luck when she examines the pilot's body, discovering a small wound on the torso. Calleigh Dusquene, the team's ballistics expert, looks at the wound, determining that it could have been produced by a .32- or a .38-caliber handgun. While processing the scene, Caine discovers the fuel injector of the plane, and thinks it may have played a role in the crash. The CSIs then discover that one of the seatbelts from the plane is undamaged and reason that an unseated passenger may have shot the pilot; Scott Sommer, the only living survivor and owner of the plane, is found with no burns on his torso, which would indicate that he was not wearing his seatbelt; Christina Colucci, Sommer's senior accountant, is discovered five miles from the scene of the crash, also with no friction burns on her torso. Evidence from Colucci's body reveals clues but is inconclusive, but they do find definite evidence that the aircraft door was opened in flight from the inside. Speedle learns that Sommer and his executives, suspected of fraud, were on their way to Washington D.C. to testify before the SEC and thinks someone may have sabotaged the flight. Next, Caine and Donner question Sommer who says that Colucci committed suicide by jumping out of the plane, but he denies hearing a gunshot; they take Sommer's fingerprints for analysis. Caine reaches the conclusion that Colucci had intended to blow the whistle on her company's corruption and she was murdered. With all the evidence pointing to Sommer, the CSIs return to the hospital to question him again, only to find that he has checked himself out, but they later confront him at home.
