DREAM ON: TAKE TWO TABLETS, AND GET ME TO MT. SINAI (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. In this episode, a nervous Martin prepares to attend an awards ceremony in which he is nominated for editor of the year. Judith thinks Martin looks a bit under the weather. Minutes later, Martin chokes when a champagne cork is accidentally shot into his open mouth, leading to his demise. Immediately, a dead Martin is in the afterlife, being led by secretary Tammy to her boss Marshall, "the transitional officer" for Martin. Marshall begins "grading the paper" of Martin's life, and how he lived it according to the Ten Commandments. Marshall recalls a time that Martin committed adultery with Judith while Richard was out of town. On the subject of stealing, Marshall recalls the time Martin found a joint in Jeremy's drawer and then smoked the marijuana with Eddie. Next, Marshall recalls some Sabbaths that Martin kept less than "holy." Marshall claims that Martin has already failed his test since 70 percent is "passing." Meanwhile, Toby, Judith, and Eddie continue trying to resuscitate Martin back on Earth. Eddie eventually dislodges the cork, but Martin still seems to be dead.

After commenting on Tammy's penchant for sarcasm, Marshall examines how Martin has treated his secretary, Toby, over the years. Marshall opts to revisit the time that Martin drove Toby to nightmares. Martin instead wants Marshall to recall his sense of responsibility to Jeremy, after which Marshall reviews the time Martin taught Jeremy how to use a condom. Marshall decides to discuss Martin with his supervisor. While Marshall is away, Tammy makes a pass at Martin. She claims that she might be able to use her powers to bring him back to life if he has sex with her. Upon doing so, Martin regains consciousness in his office, with Judith, Eddie, and Toby grilling him about what he saw while dead. Martin subsequently decides to live a life of virtue, at least until he hears the results of the evening's ceremony.
