LAMB CHOP IN THE LAND OF NO NUMBERS (TV)
Summary
In this special, puppeteer Shari Lewis and her puppet friends learn the value of numbers. Lewis opens the show by helping Lamb Chop, Charlie Horse, and Hush Puppy with their math homework. Then, the four sing "I Know My Numbers." Next, Lewis explains to everyone how Charlie Horse simply counts, as opposed to counting sheep, when he falls asleep. She then tells of one of Charlie Horse's recent dreams, when he was paid a visit by Countess Wanda (Lewis), the numbers fairy. She takes him on a journey to meet King Zero in the Land of No Numbers. Along the way, Countess Wanda and Charlie Horse sing "Walkin' and a-countin.'" Upon coming face-to-face with King Zero, he defines his position by singing "A King Never Makes Mistakes." Next, the king's first "victim," a "no good number lover," is brought in to face the wrath of the royal, his prime minister (Lamb Chop) and his chief of police (Hush Puppy). Then, Charlie Horse, a "purple-trater," is brought before the king to face accusations of perpetrating dissent. After being found guilty of counting, Charlie Horse is thrown in jail. There, he meets a kangaroo-like creature that has been in the clink for an undetermined amount of time. Soon, Countess Wanda materializes, telling the forlorn Charlie Horse that numbers got him into jail and now numbers -- specifically subtracting the number of bars on the window -- will help get him out. Next, the three sing "I Will Waltz Again." Then, Charlie Horse visits a playground where children are playing basketball. There, he learns that the kids don't even keep score. Afterward, he meets a boy that can't make a call home due to the phone's numberless key pad and other children playing a card game using blank cards. Charlie Horse tries to teach the kids why numbers are so grand and why they should want them in their lives. Then, Charlie Horse and Countess Wanda sing "Believe in Numbers." Charlie Horse, Countess Wanda, and the mob of children confront King Zero, demanding that he allow the return of numbers and questioning whether he is truly the king. Upon making the king see reason, Lamb Chop and others sing a reprise of "Believe in Numbers." The programs returns to the present with Lewis imploring Lamb Chop, Charlie Horse, and Hush Puppy to get back to their math homework. Next, Lewis shows how to draw a man's face using only the numbers zero through nine. She further shows how to make five and four equal ten, among some other number tricks. Finally, Lamb Chop presents a clip showing what she, Charlie Horse, and Lewis were up to thirty-five years ago on television.
