Summary
The premiere in this dramatic series about Orange County's Cohen and Cooper families, and the troubled teen from Chino, Ryan, who is thrust into this rarefied, wealthy community. In this episode, Chino teen Ryan Atwood is arrested as an accomplice in a car theft by his older brother and is set free under the supervision of a public defender, Sandy Cohen. After returning home to his alcoholic mother and her abusive boyfriend-of-the-week, Ryan has nowhere left to turn except Sandy, who gladly invites him to live with the Cohens for a while. Ryan's arrival in the O.C. immediately stirs things up: Sandy's wife Kirsten is leery of the troubled teen; Sandy's awkward son Seth amazingly becomes instant friends with Ryan; and the girl next door, Marissa Cooper, feels an instant spark for him, despite already having a tough guy boyfriend Luke. Everything comes to a head when Ryan and Seth visit the "dark side," a local socialite party, and tensions and passions, both good and bad, flare. Commercials deleted.
