Summary
Part one of this four-part crime drama that looks at the impact of a young man's murder on his mother, Angela Maurer, and those around her. Each episode focuses on a person who becomes involved with Angela after the murder -- a journalist, a newsagent, a police officer, and a witness -- through whom the viewer sees Angela's experience as well as the twists and turns of the developing murder investigation. This episode focuses on a journalist, Dave Dewston, who insinuates himself into Angela's life to get the scoop on a potential front-page story. Dave's obsessive attention to the case belies his grief at the loss of his wife the year before and his subsequent neglect of his two small children and his financial matters. From Dave's viewpoint inside the grieving mother's inner circle, the viewer watches as the mirage of the deceased's golden-boy image dissolves, revealing the resentment he garnered from his much maligned brother-in-law Lee, as well as the anger his actions the evening before the murder evoked in his best friend Ryan.
