CARTER INTERVIEW} {SEGMENT} (TV)
Summary
A segment from this series of morning programs, hosted
by Paula Zahn and Harry Smith, featuring interviews,
special features, and news. This is the first hour of a
two-hour program. Today marks Zahn's first day on the
job. The program begins with a news brief in which Juan
Vasquez reports on the recent Nicaraguan election, and
Bill Whitaker reports on the crashing Tokyo stock
market. Then, Mark McEwan presents the weather. Next,
Zahn interviews former president Jimmy Carter,
discussing the Nicaraguan election and that country's
future. Then, Greg Gumbel and Smith interview
professional boxing's number 1 ranked heavyweight
contender, Evander Holyfield. Holyfield discusses his
upcoming fight with James "Buster" Douglas, coming on
the heels of Douglas's shocking defeat of Mike Tyson.

the Major League Baseball strike and Zahn's recent
birthday. Next, Smith interviews Ron Pollack from
Families U.S.A. Foundation, Susan Van Gelder from Health
Insurance Association of America, and Judith Kennard,
whose mother is in a nursing home, about the rising
costs of nursing home insurance. Next, in a segment of
"The Osgood File," Charles Osgood reports on the most
"crime-addled" city in America, Hogan's Alley, Virginia,
where future FBI. agents go to practice various
techniques on thespian criminals. Next, Zahn, McEwan,
and Smith gather around again, this time discussing
Zahn's cello abilities, Yo-Yo Ma, and Smith and McEwan's
