EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION: WOSLUM FAMILY (TV)

Summary

One in this reality television series, a spin-off of "Extreme Makeover," in which a family's entire home is made over by a team of builders and designers in just seven days. Team leader Ty Pennington begins by telling his team about the Woslum family of Palmdale, California, whose house they will renovate. In a video shot by the Woslums -- mother Dawna, and children Steven, Nicholas, and Alexander, -- they explain that their husband and father, National Guardsman Trent, is off fighting in Iraq. Early on day one, Ty gives the family a "wake-up call," exciting the Woslum clan. The family is to be sent on a vacation to Disneyland while Ty and his team fix the house. Before they leave, the Woslums show Ty their "grey" house, which appears largely unfurnished. Meanwhile, Ty's design and building team speculate on how to improve the house. Preston Sharp, the exterior and "big ideas" guy, talks about how apropos it would be to grant rambunctious seven-year-old Nicholas's wish for a padded bedroom. Constance Ramos, building and planning consultant, discusses making a room for each of the three children by turning office space into a bedroom for twelve-year-old Steven. Paul Dimeo, the carpentry and "nuts & bolts" expert, details making the house into a "home." Tracy Huston, shopping and style maven, discusses the house being "sparse" and "monochromatic." Interiors/glamour guy Michael Moloney talks about how much color he will add to the house. Once the Woslums are gone, Ty's team gets to work discussing how to turn the house into a Spanish "hacienda" with stucco replacing the vinyl walls. In addition, they want to build a batting cage in the backyard for the boys. Meanwhile, Ty secretly welcomes home Sgt. Trent Woslum, introducing him to the design team and explaining that he will assist on the bathroom, this episode's "mystery room." On day two, the team's plans are put into action as general contractor Dave Tesh and his demolition crew arrive. At the same time, clips show the Woslums having fun at Disneyland. Preston and Paul go to work sprucing up Dawna's vanity, a family heirloom. Preston also takes a chainsaw to the front yard shrubs, a pricey plan that raises Dave's ire. On day three, Trent talks about how "blessed" he feels. Soon, Preston begins "scribbling" out a landscape sketch on paper to stop Constance from hassling him. Meanwhile, Ty gives Dawna a prank phone call, asking her to assist in picking the house's carpet color from her locale in Disneyland. On day four, Trent's parents pay a visit to the house and have a teary reunion with their son. Meanwhile, Preston and Constance continue to bicker over some facade work she did to the house without getting anyone else's permission. On day five, it is finally time for Ty and Trent to begin working on the bathroom. Paul starts work on a murphy bed to drop from the "castle" in five-year-old Alexander's bedroom. Later, Paul goes off to a neighbor's home to secretly bake a cake for Michael's fortieth birthday. Then, the Los Angeles Dodgers' grounds crew arrives to help Preston in building a miniature baseball field in the backyard. By day six, the physical work on the house is nearly finished, but the team has yet to acquire all the new furniture. As a building inspector arrives, Paul struggles to finish the padded room. Michael is angered when he sees a "heinous" lamp post now installed in front of the house and removes it, causing Dave to snap. Later, Preston picks up a sofa, which causes him to shatter his truck's back window. On day seven, the Woslums head home while Ty's team rushes to have the house finished in time. Clips show the "before" and "after" shots of the Woslums' residence. Then, Ty greets the Woslums' limo as it pulls onto their block. The Woslums are amazed by their new home and its beautiful furnishings. Then, Ty finally reveals the surprise room makeover, opening the bathroom door to show that it now features a car wash motif. Then, Ty takes the Woslums outside, revealing the batting cage backyard and Trent in catcher's gear. The family has an emotional gathering. One final surprise is in store when Dodger legend Tommy Lasorda along with ball players Shawn Green and Dave Roberts arrive to check out the "mini Dodger Stadium." Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
