STEPHEN KING'S KINGDOM HOSPITAL: DEATH'S KINGDOM {EPISODE 2} (TV)
Summary
The second in this thirteen-part miniseries, developed by Stephen King and based on Lars von Trier's "The Kingdom," about ghostly happenings experienced by staff and visitors at a hospital in Lewiston, Maine. This episode begins with Rudy Jenkins, who's filling for ailing maintenance man Johnny B. Goode, purposely denting Dr. Stegman's car. Inside, Dr. Jesse James explains to Dr. Stegman that the hospital is built above a faultline. Stegman also reveals that he is having problems with Dr. Hook, especially since he ordered an MRI for Sally Druse. Meanwhile, Deputy Downs questions Dave Hooman about the car accident involving Peter Rickman, as well as the numerous transdermal patches covering his shirtless torso. Then, Dave stumbles and falls off his roof. Later, Jesse discusses his new initiative, Operation: Morning Air, with Dr. Stegman. At the same time, patient Mona Klingerman, a young girl with a brain injury, watches a "Mr. Magoo" cartoon, unable to eat following unsuccessful surgery by Dr. Stegman.
Racing to the hospital, EMTs Ollie and Danny stabilize Dave as he sees the anteater while in the ambulance. Meanwhile, Otto and Bobby discuss how much Dr. Stegman hates Sally before discussing why serial killer Rolf Pedersen made headlines in that day's newspaper. While, the doctors work on Dave, the blood-shy Carrie faints as Mary watches from outside the operating room. With no other spot in ICU for Dave to recover, he is crammed into the same room with Peter. Sally speaks with Lenny about having another seance. Natalie tries to get Peter to wake up but he seems to fallen into another comatose state. Dr. Hook wonders if Peter was actually responsive and says he might not be paralyzed, which he calls a miracle. He further notes that Peter is still producing brainwaves. Even though he can't speak, Peter hears everything that Dr. Hook and Natalie say and tries to answer them. Later, Dr. Stegman shows pictures of Sally's seemingly perfect brain to Dr. Hook and Dr. Christine Draper. However, Dr. Hook believes he may have found something worrisome on the image. Meanwhile, Natalie is upset to see Dave placed in her husband's room, while Peter recognizes his attacker. Just then, the anteater appears, growling at Peter to silence him.
Dr. Stegman takes a group of staffers to see Sally, who is in the midst of a seance. Meanwhile, in his own dreams, a scared Dave finds himself running through the same deserted hospital corridors that haunted Peter's dreams. Dave's physical reactions make Natalie think that he's having a seizure. When he snaps out of his reverie, Dave sees the ferocious anteater, which literally frightens him to death. Peter also snaps awake, telling Natalie about Mary. Dr. Stegman asks Sally about being a "spiritual guru" to other patients, then calls her "a malinger and a parasite" due to her frequent hospital visits. Dr. Stegman tells Dr. Hook to discharge Sally, once and for all. Later, Dr. Elmer Traff takes Dr. Lona Massingale to a romantic dinner in the morgue. Lona is flattered but isn't so sure they can date due to their age difference. Finally, Dr. Hook escorts Sally from the hospital but she claims she can't leave after hearing Mary's cries. She also notes that something evil has "awakened" inside Kingdom Hospital. Dr. Hook is unsure until he finally hears Mary's wailing in the elevator, inspiring him to climb atop the elevator car. There, he witnesses the spectral child and accidentally drops her doll into the shaft. Includes commercials.
