STEPHEN KING'S KINGDOM HOSPITAL: HEARTLESS {EPISODE 8} (TV)

Summary

The eighth in this thirteen-part miniseries, developed by Stephen King and based on Lars von Trier's "The Kingdom," about ghostly happenings experienced by staff and visitors at a hospital in Lewiston, Maine. This episode begins with technology heir Benton Knight II receiving a call which leads to him killing his tattooed girlfriend before shooting himself in the head. Meanwhile, Dr. Stegman has a nervous breakdown in the Kingdom parking lot before leaving his Jaguar on the heliport. Elmer worries to Sonny that someone will realize that he decapitated Frank's corpse. Kitty is still angry at Sheldon for his felonious infidelity but he feigns amnesia on the subject. Sheldon wonders if he can possibly receive the dying Rolf's heart and gets on the horn to make some arrangements. Then, Otto learns that a life flight is coming in with the nearly lifeless Benton, necessitating the removal of Dr. Stegman's car from the heliport. Later, Peter finds a hidden newspaper clipping in the dress of Mary's doll that refers to the 1869 Gates Falls Mill fire in which Mary was a victim. Meanwhile, Otto is unable to reach Dr. Stegman and is forced to tow his car, raising the physician's ire. Later, Natalie and Peter show their newspaper findings to Sally, who learns more about Mary Jensen. At the same time, as Sheldon prays for Rolf's heart, he receives a visit from Antubis, who claims he can grant wishes. Like magic, Benton immediately arrives at the hospital, fitting the criteria to be Sheldon's donor.

Later, Carrie conducts an ear test on Sally in which Sally hears Mary's voice revealing how her fate came about. After scrutinizing the Gates Falls Mill article, Dr. Hook takes it to medical librarian Benjamin Bates. He informs Dr. Hook that the paper is real before giving him a history of that fire, as well as the second fire in which the Old Kingdom burned. Benjamin also tells Dr. Hook that Dr. Stegman intentionally removed Christine's name from her medical journal article, then substituted his own. At the same time, Elmer arrives for his sleep study, where Lona tells him that he is a "positive dreamer" much like Abel and Christa. Meanwhile, Dr. Stegman has confined Sally to a bed. Sally urges Bobby to find some medical records on Mary. At the same time, Sheldon tries to bribe Dr. Stegman into getting him Benton's heart. Overhearing Sheldon, Rolf gets angry and rises from his bed, menacing the lawyer. Meanwhile, as Elmer undergoes another sleep test, Lona and Carrie pay him back for his earlier stunt, leading to an otherworldly morgue-related occurrence. At the same time, the doctors prepare to remove Benton's heart, as only his brain stem is working. Meanwhile, as Rolf starts to attack Sheldon, he is shot dead by Deputy Carl Anderson, thus ruining his heart. Later, Antubis and Mary visit Sheldon with Blondi, and the lawyer redefines his wish for a new heart to the anteater. Thus, Antubis extracts his claws and removes Sheldon's heart himself. Includes commercials.
