WOOL CAP, THE {WILLIAM H. MACY} (TV)
Summary
This made-for-TV movie, inspired by the 1962 Jackie Gleason vehicle, "Gigot," is about a curmudgeonly deaf mute named Gigot who works as the superintendent at a dilapidated apartment building in St. Louis. Gigot, always wearing a battered wool cap, lives a lonely existence in the apartment's basement. His only source of entertainment and companionship is his pet monkey. Gigot's life is turned upside-down when he finds himself taking care of a precocious little girl named Louella after she's abandoned by her drug-addled mother, a former tenant of the building. Gigot and "Lou" then set out on a trip to find her family, with unhappy results. After Lou secretly moves in with Gigot, the pair try to avoid social workers' inquiries long enough to secure her a permanent home. As the tragedies of both their pasts come to light, "Lou" shows Gigot how to be more optimistic and happy in a world where everything has seemed an uphill battle. This program is closed-captioned. Commercials deleted.
