HELP ME HELP YOU: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The pilot in this comedy series about celebrity psychiatrist Dr. Bill Hoffman who is, quite possibly, more crazy than any of his patients. In this episode, Bill speaks to suicidal office drone Dave -- among others in a group therapy session -- about making "connections." Dave struggles to speak amongst fellow strangers, such as latent homosexual Jonathan, social skills-lacking Inger, therapy addict Darlene, and Michael, who has been court-ordered to group therapy for anger management. Bill delves in deeper and determines that Dave isn't suicidal, just in love and trying to get notice from co-worker Francesca. Bill teaches the group that everyone gets angry, and demonstrates his point by throwing a coffee mug at the wall. He challenges each group member to make a connection before the next session. That night, Bill shares drinks with his daughter Sasha and her new boyfriend Ira, her psychology professor who is Bill's age. During the meeting, Bill accidentally finds out that Anne, the wife from whom he's recently separated, is dating. Meanwhile, Jonathan tries to make a connection with a "not gay" barista, inviting him to a Knicks game; Inger goes on another date with a J-Date match where she reveals a lot about herself; and Darlene and Michael make a sexual connection with each other. Later, a drunken Bill stumbles home to Anne's house, waking her and her new boyfriend, Kenny. Bill is amused that Anne is sleeping with the guy that sold him his car. Later, when Kenny leaves, Bill sleeps with Anne and she is blown away. Afterward, Bill debates with Anne whether they just had break-up or make-up sex. Ultimately, Anne throws Bill out of the house, after which he attacks his car with a golf club. Meanwhile, Dave finally musters up the courage to ask Francesca out but is summarily shot down. The next day in group session, Dave reveals that his anger in the situation led to him making a connection with Lucy, an office temp. Includes commercials.
