BACHELOR, THE: ROME: WEEK 1 {NINTH SEASON PREMIERE}

Summary

The ninth season premiere in this reality series in which twenty-five single women vie for the affections of -- and a marriage proposal from -- one man, the Bachelor. In this special two-hour episode, host Chris Harrison presents this season's bachelor, Lorenzo Borghese, a thirty-four-year-old prince from an Italian noble family as well as an American cosmetics entrepreneur. The show opens with a brief biography of Lorenzo before his parents, Prince Francesco and Princess Amanda Borghese, discuss him. Then, Lorenzo talks about returning to Rome for the series. Next, a segment shows the twenty-five bachelorettes being selected to immediately travel to Rome. Once in Rome, the bachelorettes are stunned by how many landmarks bear the Borghese name. Lorenzo then surveys the "bachelor pad" -- a castle -- in which he will live for the show's duration. Finally, Lorenzo stands at the castle's entrance, greeting each of the twenty-five women as they arrive by stretch limousine for a "getting-to-know-you" party. At the party, the women drink cocktails while Lorenzo works the room, looking to give a single honorary rose -- as well as diamond earrings -- to one "lucky lady" before the evening's conclusion. The second hour begins with Lorenzo, after having chatted with many of the women, trying to decide on the recipient of his "first impression" rose. Realtor Desiree raises some of the women's ire as she becomes extremely competitive in getting Lorenzo's attention. Meanwhile, "older woman" and registered nurse Heather gets drunk and begins acting noisily. Later, as Lorenzo tries to talk with two women, hotel concierge Andrea stands on a balcony and begins belting out an opera song to serenade the prince. After a while, the party is interrupted to announce that two more women will also vie for Lorenzo's affection -- locals from Rome, college student Agnese and dancer Cosetta. Soon, the North American women are less than happy with the Italian women's arrival, though Lorenzo struggles to speak English with the pair. Ultimately, Lorenzo chooses to give the first rose to marketing manager and "tree hugger" Lisa. By morning, the party has concluded and Lorenzo goes to the deliberation room to figure out how to whittle the potential wife pool down to twelve women. Returning to the main room, Borghese picks his final eleven women, as the twelfth, Lisa, watches. Those accepting a long stem rose are: interior designer Kim, teacher Jeanette, event planner Jami, realtor Ellen, journalist Sarah, realtor Desiree, teacher Jennifer, ultrasound technician Gina, socialite Erica, publicist Sadie, and Agnese. Afterward, the winners celebrate while the fifteen losers lament. Then, clips from the upcoming season are shown. Includes commercials. This program is closed-captioned.
