ANTIQUES ROADSHOW FYI {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The second of two programs on this tape. The premiere in this companion to the popular series concerning antique appraisals -- also hosted by Lara Spencer -- that provides news on past "Antiques Roadshow" guests and offers information on the world of antiques. In a "Roadshow Updates" segment, correspondent Clay Reynolds visits a woman in Chicago who had a rare Beatles album appraised by Gary Sohmers in 2003. She eventually sold it for $10,000, which she used for new roof, and to fund a trip to Abbey Road. Then, in the "Fair Game" segment, appraiser J. Michael Flanigan visits "the world's largest outdoor antique show" in Brimfield, Massachusetts, where he details some tricks of the trade. Then, in a "Breaking News" segment, Reynolds speaks with appraiser David Lackey to learn how one detects ceramic damage. Next, in a "Hot Property" segment, Reynolds meets with Gary Davis, a collector of antique parlor stoves, and Doug Pacheco, a restorer of such stoves. Then, in "Missing Masterpieces," appraiser Rudy Franchi details his obsessive search for a long-lost American one-sheet poster for Fritz Lang's "Metropolis," which he speculates would be worth around a million dollars.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
