UGLY BETTY: DERAILED (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, Betty is haunted by nightmares -- first of Claire Meade saying she'll kill Betty if the secret about Fey is revealed, then of Henry introducing his "girlfriend." At Mode, Daniel and Alexis attempt to work together, upsetting Wilhelmina who wonders why they have become so chummy. Marc informs her that Alexis has no other friends, a role that Wilhelmina decides she will try to fill. Unable to hold in Claire's confidence, Betty blurts the revelation to Daniel. After speaking with Bradford, Daniel is told to hire lawyer Grace Chin, a homely girl that Daniel once stood up back in college. Also, Christina gets hired to create an Oscar dress for Sarah Jessica Parker.
At lunch, Betty runs into Charlotte, a.k.a. "Charlie", immediately finding a kinship with the recent New York transplant. Only later -- after having already invited Charlie to accompany her to a Stella McCartney party -- does Betty learn that Charlie is Henry's recently arrived girlfriend. Disgusted by Betty's doormat-like behavior, Amanda encourages Betty to find her "inner Mode girl" and fight for Henry. Eventually, Grace -- now a beautiful woman -- arrives at the Mode offices, refusing to take the case due to Daniel's treatment of her in college. Later, on the way to the party, Betty gives in to temptation and ditches Charlie, leaving the scared out-of-towner on a subway by herself. Meanwhile, Hilda, Santos, and Justin try to make it through the snowstorm to a performance of "Hairspray," while Wilhelmina and Alexis try to get to the opera.
The blizzard is affecting the evenings of Daniel and Grace as well, forcing them to stay at the office, where Grace recounts the present situations of every girl Daniel cruelly rejected in the past. Grace forces Daniel to call everyone he hurt in college and apologize before she will take Bradford's case. His actions cause Grace to give in to passion, not realizing what Daniel was doing when he dialed the digits. Eventually, the blizzard forces Wilhelmina and Alexis to bide their time at a dive bar, where Alexis works on being a girl. However, things go awry, and Wilhelmina is forced to show Alexis what being a true friend means. Justin also finds an unexpected show of support.
Elsewhere, Claire tells Bradford that she's going to turn herself in to authorities. At the same time, Betty and Henry go searching for Charlie, with Betty ultimately revealing her true feelings to the accountant. Soon, Henry admits his feelings as well -- right as Charlie finds them. As the episode ends, major disappointments awaits Betty, Daniel, Wilhelmina, Alexis, Bradford, and Christina.
